"Verily I say, that inasmuch as ye do this, the fulness of the earth is yours, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and that which climbeth upon the trees and walketh upon the earth; Yea and the herb, and the good things which come of the earth, whether for food or for raiment, or for houses, or for barns, or for orchards, or for gardens, or for vineyards; Yea, all things which come of the earth, in the season thereof, are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart; Yea, for food and for raiment, for taste and for things unto man; for unto this end were they made to be used, with judgement, not to excess, neither by extortion."
Doctrine and Covenants 59:16-20
For years I have been studying about health and nutrition and always there was something not quite right about the information I was getting from books, blogs and websites. I could always find truths in all I studied but mixed with what I felt were errors and fanaticism as well. I have always used the Word of Wisdom as my guide to health and when I was introduced to Traditional Cooking School, through guidance of the spirit, I felt light and truth. Wardee Harmon is another inspired woman sharing truth regarding health and nutrition. I have always used whole foods in my cooking but her traditional cooking methods taught me how to properly prepare my whole foods for optimum health and nutrition and best of all, it all fits hand in hand with the Word of Wisdom, the Bible and other scriptures. If you too would like more light and truth regarding health and nutrition, I highly recommend taking some of her classes. I started with her five free videos and then took her Fundamentals I and II e-courses and then let the spirit direct me from there on what else I needed to take. I know each home and circumstance is different and each individual will be guided to what will be best for them and their families. One other book I was guided to as well during this time of enlightenment is Your Health, Your Choice by Dr. M. Ted Morter. As with all books I read, I don't agree with everything in it but I do love the overall message. Diet is everything! Diet is the key to wellness as well as illness and imbalance in the body. Dr. Morter suggests having 75% alkaline foods; fruits, veggies, soaked - sprouted - soured grains, cultured or raw dairy, and soaked - sprouted nuts and seeds (he hasn't yet been enlightened about soaking and sprouting grain so that is my take - he has grains and dairy in the 25% category - this is where Traditional Cooking School comes in) and then 25% of acid food; meats, poultry, fish, eggs, pasteurized dairy, refined sugars, processed foods and grains that have not been properly prepared with soaking or sprouting. This made sense to me since the Word of Wisdom tells us to eat meats sparingly (25% seems in that range) and that grains are the staff of life (back in that time all grains were soaked in the fields before threshing). I hope this gets you thinking more about health and disease and how diet plays a huge part in both. I hope you will do your own research and pray about what is the best path of health for you and your family.
