"Verily I say, that inasmuch as ye do this, the fulness of the earth is yours, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and that which climbeth upon the trees and walketh upon the earth; Yea and the herb, and the good things which come of the earth, whether for food or for raiment, or for houses, or for barns, or for orchards, or for gardens, or for vineyards; Yea, all things which come of the earth, in the season thereof, are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart; Yea, for food and for raiment, for taste and for things unto man; for unto this end were they made to be used, with judgement, not to excess, neither by extortion."
Doctrine and Covenants 59:16-20
For years I have been studying about health and nutrition and always there was something not quite right about the information I was getting from books, blogs and websites. I could always find truths in all I studied but mixed with what I felt were errors and fanaticism as well. I have always used the Word of Wisdom as my guide to health and when I was introduced to Traditional Cooking School, through guidance of the spirit, I felt light and truth. Wardee Harmon is another inspired woman sharing truth regarding health and nutrition. I have always used whole foods in my cooking but her traditional cooking methods taught me how to properly prepare my whole foods for optimum health and nutrition and best of all, it all fits hand in hand with the Word of Wisdom, the Bible and other scriptures. If you too would like more light and truth regarding health and nutrition, I highly recommend taking some of her classes. I started with her five free videos and then took her Fundamentals I and II e-courses and then let the spirit direct me from there on what else I needed to take. I know each home and circumstance is different and each individual will be guided to what will be best for them and their families. One other book I was guided to as well during this time of enlightenment is Your Health, Your Choice by Dr. M. Ted Morter. As with all books I read, I don't agree with everything in it but I do love the overall message. Diet is everything! Diet is the key to wellness as well as illness and imbalance in the body. Dr. Morter suggests having 75% alkaline foods; fruits, veggies, soaked - sprouted - soured grains, cultured or raw dairy, and soaked - sprouted nuts and seeds (he hasn't yet been enlightened about soaking and sprouting grain so that is my take - he has grains and dairy in the 25% category - this is where Traditional Cooking School comes in) and then 25% of acid food; meats, poultry, fish, eggs, pasteurized dairy, refined sugars, processed foods and grains that have not been properly prepared with soaking or sprouting. This made sense to me since the Word of Wisdom tells us to eat meats sparingly (25% seems in that range) and that grains are the staff of life (back in that time all grains were soaked in the fields before threshing). I hope this gets you thinking more about health and disease and how diet plays a huge part in both. I hope you will do your own research and pray about what is the best path of health for you and your family.

The next area of my journey of light has come through a woman who has a great light of her own, shining brilliantly in the world of education that has been growing dimmer and dimmer. Her name is Marlene Peterson and her mission: to Her message is to educate the heart first (through the arts: poetry, music, nature, stories and imagery) and then the mind and spirit will follow. My life has been changed dramatically since being introduced to Libraries of Hope, my heart really has been warmed as I have listened to Marlene's view of educating children and I must add not just children, but youth, adults and seniors as well. All of her work is inspired and everything on her website is free to anyone who chooses to be educated in a culture of faith, freedom, the good and the beautiful.
Because it is so hard to explain in words (it's more of feelings in the heart) I am just going to direct you to Marlene's website, Libraries of Hope and her YouTube channel, which has a Mother's Conference, Simple Joy, which I had the opportunity to attend over Mother's Day weekend. It really was the best of the good and beautiful and I hope you will take the time, no matter your season in life, to learn from this inspired woman of God. It has been awhile since I have done a real post due to the new path and journey the Lord has been guiding me along. I call this my season of light because of all of the knowledge and truth that has come flooding my way and am reminded of a scripture... "That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day." D&C 50:24 I liken this scripture not only to the spiritual but also the physical, mental and emotional - and I have been receiving light in all these areas for the past several months and as always would like to share with others the light I have been receiving. In the next few posts I will be sharing with you what I have been learning and living through this new season of my life. Study of Christ I would like to start with how I have received more light in the spiritual area of my life. I have taken the challenge that was issued to the young adults by President Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, to increase our testimony of Christ by studying everything Jesus said and did as recorded in the Standard Works (New Testament, Old Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants). He then shared with us in the April 2017 General Conference how we can draw upon the power of Christ in our lives by learning more about Him. President Nelson suggested we use the Topical Guide as our personal core curriculum so I have put together these study journals. One is just the topical guide references you can read through and check off as you go, keeping notes in a separate journal. The other has blank journal pages included - this is the one I prefer since I like having the notes I am taking be in the same book that I am referencing. I know this challenge is a work in progress and will take me a while to complete but it is not about the pace of the journey, but the quality. I have already felt the changes in my life and I am still on the summary references of the topical guide. I truly have felt the power of Christ more in my life, I have less judgement, more love and patience with those around me - especially family members - and I, like President Nelson, am a changed person. I would love for you to join me and the many others who have already taken this challenge and feel more fully the power of the Savior in our lives, especially during these times of darkness we are living in. "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me. |
