Treating Strep Throat without Antibiotics from Jill's Home Remedies
As I have mentioned in previous posts, my body fights everything through my throat. Suffice it to say I have collected quite a few home remedies for curing a sore throat. Last year I had the worst sore throat I had ever had and even my beloved Sore Throat Spray wasn't doing much for it. I decided I needed to whip out the big guns in the form of cayenne pepper, and for me this is huge since I do not like hot stuff. I mixed the cayenne with some raw honey and because I had been exposed to strep throat I took extra precautions by adding some garlic. After forcing this down every hour for an entire day, I woke the next morning with a very subtle soreness in my throat. I couldn't believe how quickly this worked and it is now my best friend (minus the garlic mind you, unless I'm dealing with an infection) for a quick healing fix to a sore throat.
The Recipe
I just mix up a tablespoon at a time because the throat seems to heal so fast you usually don't need anymore than that. You could double or triple if treating an entire family. If your raw honey is solid you may want to warm it in some hot water (don't let the temperature exceed 100) until softened, stir in the cayenne and if using garlic mix that in also. Spoon into a container and label. Take 1/2 teaspoon every waking hour and do not drink for 30-60 minutes. You want the honey to coat your throat to sooth and heal, if you drink you'll be washing it right down, this is why I call it a throat coat. If the heat is too hot or you could handle more adjust the increments to your liking.
Why These Ingredients?
We have talked separately about the healing benefits of each of these ingredients and when blended together you are getting the best of each world. Raw honey is soothing, healing and contains a ton of live enzymes, it is also antibiotic and antimicrobial so it will aid in killing viruses and bacteria. Cayenne is a circulatory herb which will draw the white blood cells to the area so they can do their job of healing, it is also a pain reliever and kills viruses and bacteria. Garlic is the king antibiotic so if you are dealing with an infection such as strep throat the garlic will take it down. Just remember that 4 cloves of garlic is equal to a dose of antibiotics.
