The Recipe
10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
10 drops oregano essential oil
10 drops blue spruce essential oil
10 drops peppermint essential oil
or 30 drops of a respiratory blend of your choice
This time of year along with preserving the harvest, I like to get my home pharmacy prepped and ready for the upcoming cold season. We just talked about the healing properties of oregano and I will be covering a few more herbs this month that are a must have for cold season. Today I want to share with you a respiratory salve using some garden herbs and others we have already covered. This salve is formulated to support, strengthen, cleanse and heal the lungs, making it useful for treating mucous coughs, chest congestion, croup, bronchitis, pneumonia, whooping cough, and other lung related conditions, including asthma. The RecipeI like to pick my herbs fresh and then dry them before using in herbal oils. For each cup of herbal infused oil, melt with 1 oz. of beeswax in a pan over very low heat. Remove from heat and add the following essential oils: 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil 10 drops oregano essential oil 10 drops blue spruce essential oil 10 drops peppermint essential oil or 30 drops of a respiratory blend of your choice Pour into containers and let harden before placing on the lid. At the first sign of respiratory stress apply to the chest, back and neck liberally both morning and evening. For even better results layer with 2 drops of peppermint essential oil (this will drive the layers below it deeper into the body).

I just made a batch of this up, and using a 1 cup measure for a part... and I have a half gallon mason jar full. (wow! 8 cups or 4 pints ... a lot of oil as well...) Not that it is a problem, but just so others know about what 'part' to choose ~ So a 1/2 cup 'part' ends up with 2 pints... and a 1/4 cup 'part' would end up to be 1 pint, etc.
