I'm still here, just working on getting my Master Herbalist certificate and no time to post. I have great things in store later this year. In the mean time, continue to explore.
Just wanted to let everyone know that the Christ Study Journals are available on Amazon. Right now they are selling for $5.06! I'm not sure how Amazon does their pricing but it looks like they are regularly $14.72 so who knows how long they will have them available for that price.

Turmeric is among the most antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory, and immune-enhancing herbs available. (Rosemary Gladstar) Many experts say that combining turmeric with black pepper enhances its effectiveness significantly.

Methods for Use
Where to purchase
Turmeric is available all over the internet and in your local health food store and grocery store shelves. I have found that not all turmeric is created equally. I like to order mine from either Bulk Herb Store or Mountain Rose Herbs, both have high quality, organic herbs that I have always trusted.
I am so excited to announce that Marlene Peterson at Libraries of Hope, has worked with me in making these Christ Study Journals available in the most affordable way... through a bound journal! When I took my PDF version to the copy shop, I was quoted $24.00 just to get it printed in color with a spiral binding. I knew I had to find another way and printing on my own printer wasn't an option either, based on the price of toner. So after praying about a solution I was guided to reach out to Marlene, since she had created a beautiful notebook for her Simply Joy conference I had attended. Through her store you can now purchased these in a bound journal for the at cost price of $10!
This is just another option for those of you searching for a more affordable way to get these printed.
No matter if you choose to use the PDF file or purchase the journal, I just encourage you to take the challenge to study all about our Savior. As you do you will find more peace in your life and more love for your fellow man. There is no way we can focus on Christ and not have the desire to love those around us, for Christ is love and "when we are in the service of our fellow beings, we are only in the service of our God."
Having two boys, I have had my share of broken bones, stitches and many other injuries resulting in open wounds, bruises and torn tissues. I have also had older friends ask about deteriorating bones and after prayerfully considering these specific concerns was guided to this formula for rebuilding bones and tissues.
6 parts comfrey
3 parts horsetail
3 parts alfalfa
3 parts raspberry leaf
2 parts white oak bark
2 parts plantain
1 part rosehips
This blend can be used internally, externally or my favorite, both. You can make a tincture, herbal capsules, oil and/or salve. I personally like to take it internally to work on building the inside as well as a salve to work from the outside in.
General guideline for dosage:
Take 2 capsules or dropperfuls with meals until desired results are met. This will differ from person to person so if you feel you need more - take more. If you feel you need less - take less. If using in salve form, apply every evening before bed or as often as needed. For open flesh wounds, I apply salve as often as it is absorbed by the body until it is healed.
Where to order herbs and supplies
What I can't grow in my garden I like to purchase from good, quality, organic stores. Bulk Herb Store and Mountain Rose Herbs are my go to herb stores. You can also get the capsule machine and capsules from Mountain Rose Herbs including all the supplies for making salves and tinctures. Amazon also carries capsule machines and capsules.
Recently Hubby came home from a scout camp at 3:30 a.m. with his fourth bout of kidney stones. He was in enough pain that he let me do whatever I wanted to him and after checking several of my resource books this is what I felt would work best for his body. Sure enough the pain subsided and he was left feeling very sore, which means the stones dissolved and were able to be passed or they went back to the kidneys to be dissolved there.
I want to share with you what remedies I used for him that saved us a visit to the doctor for strong medications. But just so we are clear I am not against doing that, once the body indicated there was a problem (the pain) and he knew exactly what was causing it (a kidney stone) I am all about dulling the pain signal while we treat the root cause. He was able to handle the pain with Ibuprofen and these herbal remedies, which also have pain killing properties while working with the body to dissolve and eliminate the stones.
After researching the different herbs that can be used to aid the body in ridding itself of kidney stones I came up with this herbal blend that can be made into a tea (a yucky one at that) or powdered and made in to capsules (my recommendation and what I used).
3 parts Uva Ursi - strengthens and supports the kidneys, helps relieve pain and bloating
3 parts Marshmallow Root - soothes the mucus membranes, helping to relieve the discomfort of a passing stone, also has a cleansing effect
2 parts Gravel Root - derived its name from its effect on stony deposits in the kidneys
2 parts Skullcap - antispasmodic and sedative, helping with the pain
1 part Oregon Grape - infection fighter
1 part Valerian - strongly sedative to relax ureter, allowing stones to pass
These were the herbs I used in my formula but I would also have added juniper berries if I had some on hand, I only had juniper tincture so I used that in the Lemon Water below. If you have powdered Juniper berries I would add 2 parts to this formula.
Power Lemon Water
Drinking lots of water is essential for good kidney function and a good practice for helping prevent stones from forming in the first place. Drinking lots of water (distilled) while dealing with stones also helps get them out faster, adding lemon to the mix will help break down and dissolve the stones. I added to this lemon water the juniper tincture because of the effect it has on the kidneys and urinary passages. It increases urine flow and eliminates congestion, removes wastes and strengthen the kidneys, bladder and urinary passages. The added lobelia helps to relax ureters, relieve pain and hasten the passing of stones, it amplifies the effects of all other herbs as well. That is why this is called Power Lemon Water. If you don't have the tincture go ahead and just have regular lemon water, it will still aid the body in healing.
4 drops lobelia tincture
15 drops juniper berry tincture (or wild yam)
2 cups distilled water
3 drops of liquid stevia to taste
Squeeze the lemon and then drop right in the water with all the other ingredients.
Sip throughout the day, refilling as necessary.
In addition to the internal herbs and Power Lemon Water I applied the following essential oils in layers and massaged into the reflex points on each foot (right in the middle of the foot). I also applied them to his backside where the kidneys are and then placed a hot pad over the area. You could also use a wet compress.

More Remedies for Kidney Stones
We can choose to eat whole foods, those that the Lord has created for us to use and avoid processed, refined and man made products. We can filter out the heavy metals and toxins in our water. We can choose to use natural cleaning products and avoid chemical laden ones. We can choose to purchase or make natural personal care products and avoid those filled with harmful toxins. There are many choices we can make to avoid toxins and chemicals in our environment and then some we cannot avoid at all. The good news is that God created our bodies to know how to deal with toxins as they enter our body. The bad news is, if we are exposed to too many toxins the body cannot keep up and then health problems start to manifest. It is important to put nutrient rich foods in your body, positive thoughts and steer clear of chemical laden products both for cleaning the home and the body.
In addition to making choices to avoid toxins and chemicals there are several herbs that can aid the body in cleaning out toxins through the blood, where they tend to build up. I have used this Blood Purifying Blend for family and friends for a variety of reasons including; tumors, kemo treatments, adverse medication reactions, poison ivy, and cell phone radiation reactions to name a few. The blend can be used as a tea, capsules or tincture. I prefer tincture form but this does make a good tea.
5 parts red clover
2 parts red raspberry leaf
2 parts alfalfa (replace with nettle leaf if you are on blood thinner medication)
Follow the instructions for making a tea, capsule or tincture, here. Typical dosage is 2 droppers for tincture, 2 capsules or 3 cups of tea, 3 times a day until symptoms subside and/or you start to feel better. You may need more or less than this, I always follow my body and let the spirit guide and direct when helping someone else.
Where to get these herbs
These are all herbs that are easily grown in a garden or yard so if you can, gather them from your family, friends, or go foraging. If not you can purchase high quality, organic herbs from both Mountain Rose Herbs or The Bulk Herb Store. I use and love both of these shops for what I don't grow in my garden.
I have been doing a lot of purging since the summer began and cleared off a shelf full of file folders filled with scripture helps I've collected and used through the years to teach my little ones about the scriptures. I wanted to keep the ideas but not so much all the papers and file folders, so I downsized to a file box for scripture figures, activities and games and the rest I've put into digital files right here on my blog. And of course I want to share with you what has worked for my family and what my children have enjoyed to make scripture study fun and engaging. I am still working on adding items to these pages but want to share them with you today and hope they can be of use to you in your own family. I have also included what I have used for my own scripture study and also what my older children are now using as well so these resources aren't just for young children but for all ages.
For years I have been studying about health and nutrition and always there was something not quite right about the information I was getting from books, blogs and websites. I could always find truths in all I studied but mixed with what I felt were errors and fanaticism as well. I have always used the Word of Wisdom as my guide to health and when I was introduced to Traditional Cooking School, through guidance of the spirit, I felt light and truth.
Wardee Harmon is another inspired woman sharing truth regarding health and nutrition. I have always used whole foods in my cooking but her traditional cooking methods taught me how to properly prepare my whole foods for optimum health and nutrition and best of all, it all fits hand in hand with the Word of Wisdom, the Bible and other scriptures.
"Verily I say, that inasmuch as ye do this, the fulness of the earth is yours, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and that which climbeth upon the trees and walketh upon the earth; Yea and the herb, and the good things which come of the earth, whether for food or for raiment, or for houses, or for barns, or for orchards, or for gardens, or for vineyards; Yea, all things which come of the earth, in the season thereof, are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart; Yea, for food and for raiment, for taste and for things unto man; for unto this end were they made to be used, with judgement, not to excess, neither by extortion."
If you too would like more light and truth regarding health and nutrition, I highly recommend taking some of her classes. I started with her five free videos and then took her Fundamentals I and II e-courses and then let the spirit direct me from there on what else I needed to take. I know each home and circumstance is different and each individual will be guided to what will be best for them and their families.
Your Health, Your Choice
One other book I was guided to as well during this time of enlightenment is Your Health, Your Choice by Dr. M. Ted Morter. As with all books I read, I don't agree with everything in it but I do love the overall message. Diet is everything! Diet is the key to wellness as well as illness and imbalance in the body. Dr. Morter suggests having 75% alkaline foods; fruits, veggies, soaked - sprouted - soured grains, cultured or raw dairy, and soaked - sprouted nuts and seeds (he hasn't yet been enlightened about soaking and sprouting grain so that is my take - he has grains and dairy in the 25% category - this is where Traditional Cooking School comes in) and then 25% of acid food; meats, poultry, fish, eggs, pasteurized dairy, refined sugars, processed foods and grains that have not been properly prepared with soaking or sprouting. This made sense to me since the Word of Wisdom tells us to eat meats sparingly (25% seems in that range) and that grains are the staff of life (back in that time all grains were soaked in the fields before threshing). I hope this gets you thinking more about health and disease and how diet plays a huge part in both. I hope you will do your own research and pray about what is the best path of health for you and your family.
The next area of my journey of light has come through a woman who has a great light of her own, shining brilliantly in the world of education that has been growing dimmer and dimmer. Her name is Marlene Peterson and her mission:
Her message is to educate the heart first (through the arts: poetry, music, nature, stories and imagery) and then the mind and spirit will follow. My life has been changed dramatically since being introduced to Libraries of Hope, my heart really has been warmed as I have listened to Marlene's view of educating children and I must add not just children, but youth, adults and seniors as well. All of her work is inspired and everything on her website is free to anyone who chooses to be educated in a culture of faith, freedom, the good and the beautiful.
Because it is so hard to explain in words (it's more of feelings in the heart) I am just going to direct you to Marlene's website, Libraries of Hope and her YouTube channel, which has a Mother's Conference, Simple Joy, which I had the opportunity to attend over Mother's Day weekend. It really was the best of the good and beautiful and I hope you will take the time, no matter your season in life, to learn from this inspired woman of God.
It has been awhile since I have done a real post due to the new path and journey the Lord has been guiding me along. I call this my season of light because of all of the knowledge and truth that has come flooding my way and am reminded of a scripture...
"That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day." D&C 50:24
I liken this scripture not only to the spiritual but also the physical, mental and emotional - and I have been receiving light in all these areas for the past several months and as always would like to share with others the light I have been receiving. In the next few posts I will be sharing with you what I have been learning and living through this new season of my life.
Study of Christ
I would like to start with how I have received more light in the spiritual area of my life. I have taken the challenge that was issued to the young adults by President Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, to increase our testimony of Christ by studying everything Jesus said and did as recorded in the Standard Works (New Testament, Old Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants). He then shared with us in the April 2017 General Conference how we can draw upon the power of Christ in our lives by learning more about Him.
President Nelson suggested we use the Topical Guide as our personal core curriculum so I have put together these study journals. One is just the topical guide references you can read through and check off as you go, keeping notes in a separate journal. The other has blank journal pages included - this is the one I prefer since I like having the notes I am taking be in the same book that I am referencing.
I know this challenge is a work in progress and will take me a while to complete but it is not about the pace of the journey, but the quality. I have already felt the changes in my life and I am still on the summary references of the topical guide. I truly have felt the power of Christ more in my life, I have less judgement, more love and patience with those around me - especially family members - and I, like President Nelson, am a changed person.
I would love for you to join me and the many others who have already taken this challenge and feel more fully the power of the Savior in our lives, especially during these times of darkness we are living in.
